B.Sc Ship building & Repair

Ship Building is a combination of art and science. But there are number of important factors to be considered in ship building. Therefore, the curriculum includes types of ships, materials, welding and cutting, ship structure, outfitting, design(concept, preliminary, contract),dimensions, displacement, stability, propulsive characteristics, Hull form, general arrangement, structural details, prefabrication, shell plating, framing, decks, Hatches superstructure, tanker construction, pumping, piping, painting, corrosion control, ventilation, refrigeration, testing, launching, international regulations and shipyard layout etc. Training is provided in well-equipped workshop manned by able and experienced trainers. Training is also imparted at select shipyards, repair firms etc.

The programme is designed to educate and train the students in ship building technology with a view to perform shop floor work at ship building or ship repair industries.

Eligibility Criteria For B.Sc Ship Building & Repair (3) years.

Educational qualifications:

Pass in 10+2 (or) equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English as Separate subjects with a PCM average of not less than 60%.

Minimum of 50% marks in English language at 10th or 12th standard.

The candidate has to appear and qualify in the Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted by Indian Maritime University (IMU). For further details on CET and IMU, visit http://www.imu.edu.in/.

Age Limit – Maximum 25 years of age as on 1st of August of the respective year.

Note:  For SC/ST Candidates Maximum age Relaxation is of 5 years.

Physical Fitness:

All Candidates who qualify for B.Sc (Ship Building & Repair) degree courses will have to submit a Physical Fitness Certificate from Registered Medical Practitioner.

Qualifying Examination:  CET conducted by INDIAN MARITIME UNIVERSITY (IMU).

Selection of Students:  Admission to the Programme is made exclusively on the basis of Online Common Entrance Test by Indian Maritime University.

The syllabus is drawn as per the Marine / Ship Building industry’s current demand. The theory comprises of technical subjects complimented with practical training at the campus workshops and advanced on-job training in specified Shipyards.

* For B.Tech (Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering), lateral Entry (into second year), Candidates with Diploma in Ship Building Technology from Goa Ship Building Institute and B.Sc (SBR) from IMU Kochi campus  & College of Ship Technology are eligible.
